Excellence In Dentistry - Veneers in Surrey

What are veneers

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells typically made from porcelain or resin that are designed to cover the front surface of teeth. These dental veneers are used to improve the appearance of teeth and create a more aesthetically pleasing smile. The veneers are bonded to the teeth with a strong adhesive, effectively changing the size, shape, length, and colour of the teeth to achieve a desired look.

Why might you need it

Excellence In Dentistry - Reasons for VeneersVeneers can be an ideal solution for various dental concerns, and they are typically suitable for individuals who:

  • Have Stained or Discoloured Teeth: Stubborn teeth stains that resist traditional teeth whitening methods can be effectively masked with dental veneers. Whether the discolouration is due to genetics, medications, or lifestyle habits, veneers can give you a bright, white smile.
  • Experience Chipped or Cracked Teeth: Accidents happen, and if you have chipped or cracked teeth, dental veneers can help restore the aesthetics and functionality of your teeth. Veneers can cover and protect the damaged area, preventing further deterioration.
  • Have Uneven or Irregularly Shaped Teeth: Misshapen teeth can often make people feel self-conscious about their smile. Dental veneers can create a more balanced and harmonious appearance by reshaping the teeth, giving you the confidence to show off your smile.
  • Suffer from Minor Teeth Misalignment: While dental veneers are not a replacement for orthodontic treatments, they can address minor misalignments, such as small gaps or slightly crooked teeth. In such cases, veneers can provide a quicker and less invasive solution to improve your smile.
  • Want to Close Gaps Between Teeth: If you have gaps between your teeth, dental veneers can be used to close those spaces, resulting in a more uniform and attractive smile.
  • Have Worn Down Tooth Enamel: Over time, tooth enamel can wear down due to age, acidic food and drinks, or teeth grinding. Dental veneers can restore the length and protect the surface of the teeth, promoting better oral health and aesthetics.

Types of veneers

At Excellence In Dentistry, we offer two options to suit your unique needs and preferences:

  • Porcelain Laminate Veneers: These are highly durable and resist stains better than other types of veneers. They also closely mimic the light-reflecting properties of natural teeth, offering a very realistic appearance.
  • Composite Veneers: These are less expensive than porcelain veneers and can be applied in a single visit. They are also easier to repair if damaged.

Our experienced dentists will help you choose the best type of veneers based on your dental health, aesthetic goals, and budget.

Who will do it

At Excellence In Dentistry dental practice, veneers are typically performed by a cosmetic dentist or a prosthodontist. These are dental professionals who have undergone specialised training in cosmetic dentistry and are experienced in performing veneer procedures.

The specific dental professional who will perform your veneer procedure may depend on factors such as the complexity of the case and the preferences of the patient. During your consultation, your dental professional will discuss your treatment options and recommend the best course of action to achieve your desired results.

How much does it cost

At Excellence In Dentistry, we pride ourselves on providing premium dental treatments, including the increasingly popular dental veneers. The starting cost for dental veneers typically begins around £500 per tooth. However, please acknowledge that this cost can vary widely based on several factors. The final price might differ depending on the specific material used, the intricacy of the application, and individual dental needs. As with any bespoke treatment, it’s advisable to schedule a consultation with us to get a detailed and personalised estimate tailored to your requirements.

The procedure

  1. Consultation: The first step is to have a consultation with a dental professional to determine if veneers are the best treatment option for your individual needs. During the consultation, the dentist will examine your teeth, discuss your goals for the treatment, and explain the procedure in detail.
  2. Preparation: Before the veneer procedure can begin, the dentist will prepare the teeth by removing a small amount of enamel from the surface of the teeth. This is to ensure that the veneers will fit properly and look natural. Anesthesia is typically not needed for this procedure.
  3. Impressions: Once the teeth have been prepared, the dentist will take impressions of the teeth, which will be used to create custom-made veneers that are tailored to the shape, size, and color of your teeth.
  4. Temporary veneers: In some cases, temporary veneers may be placed on the teeth while the custom-made veneers are being created in a dental laboratory. These temporary veneers will protect the teeth and provide a preview of what the final result will look like.
  5. Bonding: Once the custom-made veneers are ready, the dentist will bond them to the teeth using a special adhesive. The veneers will be carefully positioned and adjusted to ensure a comfortable fit and a natural-looking result.
  6. Finishing touches: After the veneers have been bonded to the teeth, the dentist will make any necessary adjustments to ensure that the veneers look and feel just right. The veneers will then be polished and buffed to create a seamless and natural-looking result.

The veneer procedure is typically completed over several appointments, with the preparation and impression steps done during the first appointment, and the bonding and finishing touches done during subsequent appointments. With proper care and maintenance, veneers can last for many years and can provide a long-lasting solution to a wide range of cosmetic dental concerns.

Aftercare

Proper aftercare is important to ensure that your veneers last as long as possible and maintain their appearance. Here are some tips to help you care for your veneers after the procedure:

  1. Practice good oral hygiene: Brush and floss your teeth regularly to maintain good oral hygiene and prevent the buildup of plaque and bacteria.
  2. Avoid hard or sticky foods: To prevent damage to the veneers, avoid biting or chewing hard objects such as ice or hard candy, and avoid sticky or chewy foods that can pull on the veneers.
  3. Wear a mouthguard: If you grind your teeth at night or play sports, wear a mouthguard to protect the veneers from damage.
  4. Attend regular dental checkups and cleanings: Schedule regular dental appointments to ensure that your veneers and overall dental health are in good condition.
  5. Avoid staining agents: To prevent staining, avoid consuming dark-coloured foods and drinks, such as coffee, tea, and red wine, or use a straw to minimize contact with the teeth.
  6. Quit smoking: Smoking can stain the veneers and also cause damage to your overall dental health.

By following these tips, you can help ensure that your veneers last as long as possible and maintain their appearance. If you have any questions or concerns about caring for your veneers, be sure to consult with your dental professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do veneers last?

With proper care and maintenance, dental veneers can last between 10 to 15 years or even longer. Regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene practices are important for their longevity.

Can anyone get veneers?

Most individuals are suitable candidates for dental veneers; however, a comprehensive dental evaluation is necessary to determine your eligibility. Our dental professionals at Excellence In Dentistry will assess your oral health and discuss whether veneers are the right option for you.

Are veneers permanent?

Veneers are considered a permanent cosmetic dental solution since a small amount of enamel is usually removed from the teeth to accommodate the veneers. However, they may need to be replaced or repaired over time due to wear or damage.

Does getting veneers hurt?

The process of getting dental veneers is usually painless. Local anesthesia may be used during the preparation stage, where a small amount of enamel is removed. Afterward, you may experience some temporary sensitivity, but it is typically minimal.

How long does it take to get veneers?

The timeframe for getting veneers can vary depending on factors such as the number of veneers needed and any additional dental treatments required. Typically, it takes two to three appointments spread over a few weeks to complete the veneer process.

Can veneers fix crooked teeth?

Veneers can improve the appearance of slightly misaligned teeth. However, if the misalignment is significant, orthodontic treatments such as braces or Invisalign may be recommended to properly align the teeth.

Can veneers stain?

Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining and maintain their colour well over time. However, composite resin veneers may be more prone to staining, and certain habits like excessive coffee, tea, or tobacco use can affect their appearance.

Are veneers reversible?

No, dental veneers are not considered reversible. The process of getting veneers typically involves removing a small amount of enamel from the teeth to accommodate the veneers. Once the enamel is removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth, it is not possible to restore the teeth to their original state without replacing the veneers. Therefore, it is important to carefully consider and discuss the decision to proceed with veneers with us before undergoing the treatment.

Have been coming to this practice for years, despite it being a good long drive. Initially I had concerns when Andre handed the reigns over, but these concerns proved unfounded as the team continued to be just as kind, caring and attentive as always. Any dental work is always carried out thoroughly and diligently and I always leave feeling like nothing has been missed or rushed. In addition, the practice uses ‘the wand’ for anaesthesia, a barely noticeable and ultra fine needle that administers slowly and without much discomfort. As someone who has a fear of needles this has helped hugely. I often struggle with tooth sensitivity so the hygienist visit is always something I dread, but Agota’s reassuring and patient attitude makes things go much more smoothly. Honestly can’t recommend them highly enough.

Highly recommend. I’ve been coming here for over 20 years. It’s not local to me but I travel here because it’s worth it. The care here is truly excellent. I was worried when Andre retired but Keelin is every bit as good and so I will continue to come here.
