Who needs dental bridges?

Who Needs Dental Bridges in Surrey at Excellence In DentistryDental bridges are recommended for individuals who have one or more missing teeth and are seeking a fixed and durable solution. The following scenarios indicate a need for dental bridges:

  1. Missing Teeth: Individuals with one or more missing teeth can benefit from dental bridges to restore a complete and functional dental arch.
  2. Chewing Difficulties: Missing teeth can impact proper chewing function, and dental bridges provide stability, enabling individuals to chew and bite more effectively.
  3. Speech Issues: Gaps from missing teeth may affect speech clarity, and dental bridges help in addressing speech-related concerns by restoring the natural alignment of teeth.
  4. Preventing Shifting: The gap left by a missing tooth can lead to neighboring teeth shifting out of position. Dental bridges prevent this shift, maintaining the alignment of surrounding teeth.
  5. Enhancing Aesthetics: Dental bridges not only restore functionality but also improve the overall appearance of the smile by filling in gaps and providing a natural-looking result.
  6. Supporting Facial Structure: Missing teeth can lead to changes in facial structure over time. Dental bridges provide support and help maintain the natural contours of the face.
  7. Preserving Oral Health: Dental bridges contribute to the preservation of oral health by preventing issues like bite misalignment, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and the increased risk of gum disease associated with gaps.
  8. Alternative to Implants: For individuals who may not be candidates for dental implants, bridges offer a stable and effective tooth replacement option.

Key benefits of dental bridges

Dental bridges offer a range of benefits, making them a popular and effective solution for individuals with missing teeth. Here are some key advantages:

  1. Restored Functionality: Dental bridges enable improved biting, chewing, and speaking functions, restoring overall oral function.
  2. Aesthetic Enhancement: Bridges fill gaps, enhancing the smile’s appearance for a natural and aesthetically pleasing result.
  3. Prevention of Teeth Shifting: By filling spaces, bridges prevent neighbouring teeth from shifting, maintaining proper dental alignment.
  4. Improved Speech: Bridges enhance speech clarity, addressing any impediments caused by missing teeth.
  5. Preservation of Facial Structure: Bridges contribute to maintaining natural facial contours, preventing changes due to tooth loss.
  6. Distribution of Bite Force: Even distribution of force during biting and chewing reduces strain on remaining natural teeth.
  7. Boosted Confidence: A complete and pleasing smile often leads to increased self-confidence and a positive self-image.
  8. Prevention of Jaw Joint Issues: Bridges help prevent TMJ disorders by maintaining a balanced bite and reducing stress on the jaw joint.
  9. Durability: Well-maintained dental bridges are durable, offering a long-term solution for tooth replacement.
  10. Preservation of Oral Health: Bridges contribute to overall oral health by preventing teeth from shifting, reducing the risk of gum disease and decay.

The procedure

The procedure for dental bridges involves several steps to ensure a precise and customised fit:

  1. Initial Consultation: The process begins with a thorough examination and consultation. Our dentist assesses the patient’s oral health, discusses treatment options, and determines the suitability of dental bridges.
  2. Tooth Preparation: If the supporting teeth (abutment teeth) need shaping to accommodate crowns, a small portion of their enamel is removed. This ensures a secure fit for the dental crowns that will anchor the bridge.
  3. Impression Taking: Precise impressions of the prepared teeth are taken. These impressions serve as moulds for the creation of the dental bridge and crowns.
  4. Temporary Bridge Placement: While the permanent bridge is being fabricated, a temporary bridge is often placed to protect the exposed teeth and maintain functionality.
  5. Bridge Fabrication: In a dental laboratory, skilled technicians use the impressions to craft a custom bridge. The material choice, such as porcelain or ceramic, ensures a natural appearance and durability.
  6. Bridge Fitting: Once the permanent bridge is ready, the patient returns for a fitting. The dentist checks the fit, bite, and aesthetics, making any necessary adjustments to ensure comfort and functionality.
  7. Bridge Cementation: Once satisfied with the fit, the permanent bridge is cemented onto the prepared teeth using dental adhesive, ensuring a secure and long-lasting attachment.
  8. Post-Placement Guidance: After the bridge is in place, the dentist provides care instructions, emphasising proper oral hygiene practices and regular dental check-ups to ensure the bridge’s longevity.

How much do dental bridges cost

The cost of dental bridges can vary based on factors such as the type of bridge, materials used, and individual patient needs. At Excellence In Dentistry, we understand the importance of transparent and affordable dental care. Our dental bridges, crafted with precision and quality materials, start from a competitive £995.

We believe in offering cost-effective options that cater to diverse budgets while ensuring the highest standards of craftsmanship. Your oral health and satisfaction are our priorities, and our transparent pricing structure aims to make dental bridges an attainable and valuable investment in restoring both function and aesthetics to your smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there different types of dental bridges?

Yes, there are several types of dental bridges, including traditional bridges supported by crowns on adjacent teeth, cantilever bridges secured to a single adjacent tooth, and implant-supported bridges anchored to dental implants. Each type is selected based on individual needs and oral health considerations.

How long do dental bridges last?

The lifespan of dental bridges varies, but with proper care and maintenance, they can last 10 to 15 years or more. Regular dental check-ups, good oral hygiene practices, and avoiding habits that may stress the bridge contribute to its longevity.

Is the dental bridge procedure painful?

The dental bridge procedure is typically not painful as it is performed under local anaesthesia to ensure patient comfort. After the procedure, some individuals may experience mild discomfort or sensitivity, which usually subsides quickly.

Do dental bridges look natural?

Yes, modern dental bridges are crafted from materials like porcelain and ceramic that closely mimic the appearance of natural teeth. The shade, shape, and alignment of the artificial teeth are customised to blend seamlessly with the patient’s natural dentition.

Can I choose the material for my dental bridge?

Absolutely. Patients can discuss material options with our dentist, taking into consideration factors such as aesthetics, durability, and budget. Common materials include porcelain, ceramic, and metal fused to ceramic.

Is the dental bridge placement a one-time procedure?

The placement of a dental bridge typically involves two appointments. The first appointment includes tooth preparation, impression-taking, and the placement of a temporary bridge. The second appointment involves fitting and cementing the permanent bridge.

Can dental bridges be placed on any tooth?

Dental bridges can be placed on most teeth, provided they have sufficient healthy structure to support the bridge. The location and function of the tooth are factors considered in the decision-making process.

Do dental bridges require special care?

While dental bridges do not require special care, maintaining good oral hygiene practices, regular dental check-ups, and avoiding habits like biting on hard objects contribute to their longevity.

What is the difference between a dental bridge and a dental implant?

Dental bridges are fixed prosthetics that bridge the gap between natural teeth or implants, while dental implants are surgically placed in the jawbone to serve as artificial tooth roots. The choice depends on individual needs, oral health, and preferences.

What should I do if my dental bridge becomes loose or falls off?

If a dental bridge becomes loose or falls off, it is crucial to contact our dentist promptly. Avoid chewing on the affected side and keep the bridge in a safe place until it can be re-cemented by a dental professional.

Have been coming to this practice for years, despite it being a good long drive. Initially I had concerns when Andre handed the reigns over, but these concerns proved unfounded as the team continued to be just as kind, caring and attentive as always. Any dental work is always carried out thoroughly and diligently and I always leave feeling like nothing has been missed or rushed. In addition, the practice uses ‘the wand’ for anaesthesia, a barely noticeable and ultra fine needle that administers slowly and without much discomfort. As someone who has a fear of needles this has helped hugely. I often struggle with tooth sensitivity so the hygienist visit is always something I dread, but Agota’s reassuring and patient attitude makes things go much more smoothly. Honestly can’t recommend them highly enough.

Highly recommend. I’ve been coming here for over 20 years. It’s not local to me but I travel here because it’s worth it. The care here is truly excellent. I was worried when Andre retired but Keelin is every bit as good and so I will continue to come here.
